Tom Still, FICS

Tom served a broad cadetship with the Conway Merchant Nay Trust before qualifying as an II/I Deck Officer. His early career saw him sailing on BP Shipping’s VLCC and LNG fleet before securing a Ship Operations role on BP’s trading floor. Tom worked across all trading benches (Dirty, Clean, Gas) before being appointed the Lead Ship Operator for fuel oil. Broadening his CV into Assurance, Tom worked for two years as a relationship manager between BP and their long term shipping partners; problem solving and assisting them with their vetting and compliance.

Moving back into the busy commercial world in 2010 he secured a ship operations role with ACM Shipbrokers, before starting with Unipec’s fledgling Shipping Team in 2011.  In 2014, Tom was appointed the Team Leader of the Ship Ops department, building it up from two to seven operators running spot, time chartered and pool operations. More recently he has moved across the desk and now works as a VLCC Charterer for Unipec’s busy West African Programme.

Tom has been lecturing for METL for a number of years, specializing in ship types, design and operations.
