Sarah Sullivan
Sarah Sullivan LLB (Honours), FICS
Sarah is qualified as a solicitor, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, a member of the Baltic Exchange and supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA). She has also obtained the qualification necessary to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Sarah started her career as a shipbroker, attended Southampton University as a mature student obtaining an LLB (Honours) before returning to shipbroking, moving to in-house claims handling and then taking articles at Holman Fenwick Willan.
With her experience in trading, broking and law, Sarah starting working for P&I Clubs. She has advised on a range of issues including complex cargo claims, newbuilding cancellations, hard fought charterparty disputes and international law concerns such as sanctions.
Sarah has considerable experience of problem solving in a legal context rather than resorting to legal action and has negotiated many settlements for P&I Club members. She has also run many arbitrations to award, appeal and taken part in mediations.
Now self-employed, Sarah lectures on shipping, international trade and law for various companies worldwide. She has also been writing modules for various distance learning diplomas, reviewing and updating books and writing and marking exams.
In her spare time, Sarah trains spaniels.
