Mike Robarts
Mike Robarts Master Mariner FICS
Mike Robarts started his career at sea as Deck Officer on VLCC, product tankers and LPG tankers before moving onto Ro/Ro ships. Whilst working for Ro/Ro operators he stood by in a team for three newbuild ships in the building yards and their maiden voyages to their respective liner routes. He ended up as Master on tugs and maintenance dredgers in the busy European trades.
After his seagoing career, Mike transferred to port operations and became a marine pilot and now pilots ultra large container ships, general cargo and tanker ships in and out of UK major ports approaches, rivers and berths. As a consultant, he acts as the designated person and marine advisor to a commercial harbour.
He is the author of Branch's Elements of Shipping 9th Edition by Routledge.
His further experience includes preparing reports for expert witnesses on navigation collision cases and their causes. He has lectured on various courses at METL for several years. He maintains an interest in future smart shipping technology and the development of ship construction.
